When buying household appliances, the owners of the apartment determine a specific place for it. Also with the washing machine.
Before you buy it, you need to know exactly where to install it.
It happens that the washing machine cannot be installed next to the drain. Or after repair it has to be rearranged to another place. In this situation, an unpleasant problem appears - the drain hose is a little short.
If the water drain hose is short
Basically, washing machines have drain hoses of a standard size, about 1.5 meters.
With the correct layout of the room, problems with installing a washing machine should not arise.
But what to do if the washing machine has a short drain hose and is not enough to connect to the sewer pipe? Panic thoughts appear, and behind them the question:
Of course. There are three ways to solve the problem:
Call a plumber.- Replace the hose with a longer one in the service.
- Figure out how to extend the drain hose and solve the problem on your own.
The first two options are easy, but some financial outlay will be required.
The procedure for building a hose is simple and does not require specific knowledge. Basically, you don't have to disassemble the equipment.
What are drain hoses
The drain hose is made of polypropylene with fittings (adapters) at the ends. Stores sell:
Standard hose from 1 to 5 meters.- Telescopic (corrugated) hose. It is convenient in that it eliminates kinks during operation, but there is a minus - it is prone to blockages.
What to do?
There are two ways, differing from each other in the complexity of execution:
- Replace the old drain hose with a new, longer one. This method has a small disadvantage. To remove the old hose, you need to disassemble some parts of the washing machine. In most models, the front wall is completely disassembled. Not a very convenient option for replacing the drain hose.
- Buy an additional hose from a specialized store and connect it to the existing one. The method does not require much effort, which makes extending the drain hose a simple task.
How to lengthen the drain hose of a washing machine?
Step 1. Determine what length is missing
We take a tape measure and stretch it from the sewer to the hose. Do not pull the tape measure, let it lie freely. Otherwise, the hose will also be in a taut position. It's always worth keeping a spare.
Plumbing or home appliance stores provide hoses of different sizes, for any demand. The hose is divided into modules, the length of each of which is 0.5 meters. You can choose the required length by unwinding from the modular hose.
In the case of lengthening the drain hose, the main thing is not to overdo it.
Breaking it in this case will not take long. When extending the drain hose in the washing machine, do not forget about its geometric characteristics. The top point of the hose should not be higher than 100 cm. Otherwise, the water will not be able to drain, as the pump power will drop significantly.
Step 2. Decided on the length, choose special connectors
They are small plastic tubes. And they are needed in order to insert the ends of the hoses into them and secure them with clamps that are sold in auto stores.
Their size should be 16 by 27 mm.
The ends of the drain hoses may have different diameters. For example, the original hose is 19 mm, and the one that is being extended is 22 mm.
You can use connectors of different diameters in such situations. In order to save money, the connector is made from an ordinary plastic tube.
The main thing is to guess with a suitable diameter. It is also fixed with a clamp.
Step 3. We prepare materials, tools
So, here's what you need to extend the drain hose:
- extension hose, suitable length;
- connector;
- clamps;
- screwdriver.
Step 4. Extension
If everything you need is prepared, we proceed to build up the drain hose.
We wear collars. Thread the end of the hose coming from the washing machine into the connector. We also insert the purchased hose into the connector. We tighten the clamp with a screwdriver. You should not do this too hard, just fasten it so that the hose does not slip.
Step 5. Connecting to the sewer
All stages have been completed.Further, the drain hose is connected either to the sewer, or to a siphon with an additional compartment, or lowered into a sanitary ware, simply speaking, into the bath, while taking into account that you will need a holder to fix the hose. The drain is checked for leaks.
If you follow all the steps, carefully studying how to extend the drain hose of washing equipment and follow the necessary steps, there simply cannot be any trouble.
