For the correct operation of the appliance, it is important to know the diameter of the drain hose of the washing machine. The drain hose usually comes with the washing machine itself. But the available length is sometimes not enough and you have to buy a new one. In addition, the hoses wear out faster than the device itself and have to be changed. An incorrect hose can affect the operation of the appliance and cause ruptures.
We will tell you how to correctly determine the diameter, select and connect the drain hose below.
Washing machine hose types
Typically, the following types of hoses are distinguished:
1) Standard. This type comes with a fixed length from 1 to 5 meters. To lengthen several tubes are connected together.
2) Telescopic. It has a length of up to 2 meters in a stretched form and a diameter of up to 60 cm. It is sold in an assembled compressed form. During the flow of water, it vibrates strongly and there are blockages with it. This disadvantage should not be forgotten when choosing. In addition, it can break if stretched too hard.
3) Hose in coil. Quite convenient and practical to use. It has serifs for self-adjustment of length. The hose is usually up to 50 cm. But it is not recommended to use it as a drain. The risk of blockages is also high.
4) Drain pipe. Pretty versatile. Made from polypropylene.Removes contaminated liquids well. At the ends it has fittings with a diameter of 19 or 22 cm. Fittings can have the same or different diameters at the ends of the pipe. This makes it easier to connect to the washing machine and sewer.
Remember! When choosing a drain hose, pay attention not only to the length and diameter, but also to the type of hose.
Types of drain hose models
- - Join the siphon. Mounting takes place through a threaded connection.
- - They are connected to a separate outlet on the sewer pipe through sealing cuffs.
- - No sewer connection. They have a bend at the end for attaching to a bathtub, sink or toilet bowl for draining water there.
Important! The third type of hose is inconvenient, but indispensable in the poor condition of the sewer network.
Hose and sewer pipe diameters
The diameter of the sewer pipe to which the hose is attached is usually 40.50, 90 or 110 mm. The wall thickness is about 3 mm for PET pipes, and their diameter is smaller. With a diameter of 40-50 mm, the wall thickness is usually also 3 mm, and with a diameter of 90-110 mm - a thickness of 5 mm.
The inner diameters of washing machine hoses range from 16 to 63 mm. Most manufacturers have an inner diameter of the drain hose of 19 mm and an outer diameter of 22 mm. There are also 25 mm in diameter, for example, some LG models.
At the ends of the hose there are fittings for fastening with a diameter of 19mm or 22mm. On old washing machines Indesit a diameter of 29 mm is used, but this size is quite rare on other washing machines.
Major manufacturers of drain hoses
- The Russian company Helfer produces hoses that can withstand pressures up to 10 bar and temperatures up to 60 degrees. Fittings 19 mm.
- The Italian company Parigi Nylonflex produces high-strength hoses that can withstand pressures up to 10 bar and temperature drops from -5 to +70 degrees.
- Italian TSL hoses withstand 5 bar pressure and have 19*22 mm fittings. Suitable for Ariston, Electrolux, Zanussi, Bosch and Whirlpool washing machines.
- EvciPlastic produces corrugated hoses with a working temperature from -5 to +60 degrees, a maximum pressure of 3 bar, a length of up to 50 m and a diameter of 16 to 63 mm.
-
The Russian company TuboFlex manufactures hoses that can withstand pressures up to 2 bar, with a length of 1.5 to 3.5 meters. Suitable for Indesit washing machines Atlant, Samsung and Beko.
Features of the selection and measurement of hoses
- - measurements should be carried out as accurately as possible, but without interference and rounding down;
- - do not buy hoses much longer than necessary (the longer the hose, the more actively the pump works, which means it wears out);
- - the hose should not be stretched or with strong kinks;
- - it is not recommended to buy a hose longer than 3.5 m;
- - consider connecting the hoses to each other (sometimes a connecting tube is sometimes used, to which you need to buy a clamp in a car shop);
- - if the washing machine has a non-standard fitting, then it will have to be ordered from the manufacturer or increased in length;
- - the diameter of the inlet and outlet is usually standard and is ¾ inch, which makes it easier to choose;
- - find the hose attachment point in your washing machine before buying;
Note: In Bosc, AEG and Siemens washing machines, the drain system is located under the front panel. Other manufacturers, as a rule, on the back of the device.
- - pay attention to the heat resistance of the hose (the optimum temperature is up to 90 degrees) and the marking with the maximum allowable pressure (2 Bar is enough for an apartment, but for a private house you need to take more);
Important! Do not forget to check the condition and completeness of the hose. Buying everything at once is easier than running to the store later.
How to replace the drain hose of a washing machine?
- - turn off the water supply tap;
- - disconnect the washing machine from the network;
- - unscrew the desired panel (depending on the configuration of your washing machine);
- - remove the clamps from the hose;
- -disconnect the old hose (it contains liquid, be careful);
- - we clean the inlet pipe from debris and mucus;
- - attach a new hose;
- - check the operation of washing machines.
